Brianna is still doing great on her new ventilator the nurse today took a very cute picture of her all snuggled up in her blanket and took footprints of her tiny little feet for us. She is up to 1 lb 9 ounces and has increased to eating 5 cc's of breastmilk every 2 hrs. The only thing that is bumming me out is I'm not getting enough breastmilk to keep up with that so they just put me on a medicine that should help...apparently its common for someone who has had a very traumatic stressful birth and ER c-section. Tonight they will have to supplement a bit with formula which bums me out a little bit but whats really important is she continues to grow at the rate that she has been. Hopefully this medicine will kick in soon.

Sounds like Brianna is making great progress!!!! WTG!
ReplyDeleteSorry about the supply issues. I had the same problem after I had pre-e. I think it's pretty common. I am guessing they put you on Reglan, which can help if your prolactin is low. Are you using a hospital grade pump at home? I had a Medela PIS, but the NICU recommended that I rent a hospital grade for 1 month to help establish my supply. I rented it at BRU. Other things that helped me were Mother's Milk tea, Fenugreek, More Milk Plus and Brewer's Yeast. You can get all of them at a local health food store, just make sure you eat a little yogurt with the BY to prevent a yeast infection. Try not to get frustrated. The increases are slow, but it will happen. I was told to not obsess over how much I got at each session, but to track the amount over a 24 hour period. You will start to see an increase. Other things that helped were pumping after holding the baby, pumping after sleeping/napping (sleep increases your prolactin level) and pumping after a hot shower. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see more pictures!

Yes it was reglan they put me on to be honest I cant wait for the 7 days to be over. I find it makes me feel sleepy and at the same time a bit jittery. However I do notice I'm getting more at every session so I think its doing the job. They gave me a double hospital grade pump to use at home. I also notice a nap first helps a lot. Thanks for all the other suggestions I might try a few of those too. Sure is nice to know someone else who has gone through this!
